Improv Class, Part 3: Level completed!
January 22, 2012
I stand here (well, virtually) before you today, a bona fide graduate of a beginner improv acting class. This time last year I would have had serious doubts about being able to do such a thing, but it is done!
This course consisted of 7, 3-hour classes with a small group of eager people, led by our talented host, Ralph MacLeod.
Improv skills are all about the power of 'yes' -- scenes only progress when we really listen to each other and are ready to roll with each new element or idea. "Yes, AND".. is the main idea of every good improv. I found a positive spin-off effect from doing improv in other areas of my life and especially teaching. While I'm still a long way from being a decent improviser, I cannot believe how much I learned over the course of this class. I would really like to go back and take the next level very soon...
