I had a great opportunity to take a Life Drawing Master Class with Alex Woo (Pixar story artist/gesture drawing teacher) with Louis Gonzales (Pixar Story artist and creator) through Schoolism Live hosted by Sketchbook Pro.
Alex and Luis went way beyond any life drawing instruction I had ever had and opened my eyes to a new way of sketching for animation. I had always been taught to study the form through observing negative space, silhouette and anatomy. I had always thought the goal of life drawing was to convey what the figure is doing, Alex and Luis taught us to use the figure's actions to describe a larger story point.
They drew with strong, clear, simple lines and loads of exaggeration that conveyed the character's action and mood quickly and could be easily read from a distance.
It was a wonderful session. I took away more new information than many of my year-long life-drawing classes. Definitely recommended.
